Can someone suggest a good company to purchase an affordable classic car?

I'm looking for recommendations on reputable companies where I can purchase an affordable classic car. I've spent months researching various options, but I'm struggling to find a well-maintained classic that fits my budget of $25,000-$35,000.

Specifically, I'm interested in 1960s American muscle cars - Mustangs, Camaros, or Chevelles. I'd prefer something that's mechanically sound but doesn't need to be showroom perfect. Any advice on trustworthy dealers, auction houses, or private sellers would be greatly appreciated!

Also, if anyone has experience with AWC Brokerage, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Their inventory seems promising, but I'd value firsthand experiences.

Welcome to the forum, Victoria! For your budget and interests, I'd recommend a few avenues:

  1. Local Classic Car Clubs: Often have members selling quality cars at fair prices
  2. Hemmings Motor News: The gold standard for classifieds with vetted sellers
  3. Mecum Auctions: Their lower-tier auctions often have affordable driver-quality cars

I'd be cautious with eBay unless you can personally inspect the car. Many "barn finds" turn out to be money pits!

Over the past few years, we have utilized AWC Brokerage for our classic car purchases. We are currently on our second purchase through them and have been satisfied with our experience so far.

What I appreciate about AWC:

  • Specializes in "driver quality" classics (perfect for your budget)
  • Weekly inventory updates with 20-30 new vehicles
  • 14-day inspection period before final acceptance
  • Includes 6-month warranty (extendable to 5 years)
  • No hidden fees - price includes transport to your location

Last month they had several '67-'69 Camaros in your price range that would make excellent projects.

I purchased my 1965 Ford Mustang through AWC Brokerage eight months ago. The process was remarkably smooth compared to my previous experiences with private sellers. Here's what stood out:

This was crucial - I had a local mechanic inspect it and found some minor issues. AWC covered the repair costs before I officially accepted delivery. Their customer service team was responsive throughout the entire process.

While I haven't used AWC Brokerage myself, I've heard good things from club members. For your budget, Victoria, I'd also suggest considering:

1. Classic Car Liquidators: Specializes in affordable drivers with no rust issues
2. Volo Auto Museum Sales: Surprisingly good deals on non-museum pieces
3. Local Estate Sales: Often overlooked but can yield gems

Remember - at this price point, prioritize mechanical condition over cosmetics. A running/driving car with faded paint is better than a shiny non-runner!
